There are lots of strategies here and the exact strategy we advise will depend on the client and product. We’ve covered this in more detail in a blog post, which you can read here.

At Bamboo Bridge, we do so much more than just source suppliers. We thrive on working with startups, who are always on the move, innovating, learning, and launching new products at a breakneck pace – and we're right there, loving every bit of that process.
But our assistance doesn't stop at sourcing. We are a constant partner, helping our clients explore innovative processes, forge vital connections, solve complex problems, and constantly optimize their supply chain for durability and cost efficiency.
We don’t believe in lengthy, restrictive contracts. Our conviction lies in the value we deliver. As long as we continue to provide valuable services, we're confident of remaining a crucial part of your team.

Manufacturing in China or Vietnam comes with distinct advantages that are difficult to find elsewhere. These countries have a high density of factories, resulting in robust industrial clusters. This allows for efficient manufacturing of various components at different sites. The logistics around final assembly, packaging and shipping are all very well established.
China, in particular, has a wealth of know-how in these industrial clusters, which can be invaluable when addressing production challenges or optimizing component arrangement in a tool. It is this combination of speed, capability, and knowledge that often makes China the top choice for manufacturing most products.
Moreover, with the exponential growth in renewable energy use in China in recent years (with renewables projected to account for 36% of electricity consumption by 2025), the environmental impact of manufacturing in China has also diminished.
Vietnam, on the other hand, is emerging as a promising alternative for a broadening array of products. Boasting lower labor costs and potentially reduced import duties (e.g., 0% vs. 8% for importing backpacks into the UK from Vietnam and China respectively), Vietnam can be a compelling choice for manufacturing less technologically-intensive products. While Vietnam's manufacturing capabilities continue to improve annually, complex product manufacturing is currently more challenging there than in China.
In summary, the choice between manufacturing in China or Vietnam depends largely on your specific needs, the complexity of your products, and your strategic considerations around cost and import duties.
